Ten minutes out from Canberra is a little piece of heaven in the guise of Mount Majura Winery. Offering cellar door wine tasting you can also sit and enjoy your favourite vintage by the glass.
Red volcanic soils containing a little bit of limestone allows for a range of wines from Riesling and Chardonnay to Shiraz, Tempranillo, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Dinny’s Block is a lovely blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon while the TSG is an easy drinking blend of Tempranillo, Shiraz and Graciano.
The 2020 Riesling was a lovely drop. Produced using fruit from the Tamar Valley in Tasmania, after smoke taint affected the locally grown harvest, it has delicate citrus flavours.
The single block Tempranillo’s each had a distinct character with the 2018 Dry Spur having a richness that set it apart from the more perfumed Rock Block Tempranillo.
The standout for us was the Chardonnay from their block. This wine had a distinctive aroma of grilled nuts and citrus finish.
