A person can not live on wine alone so it is fortuitous that we found The Poachers Pantry during our exploration of the Canberra wine region. Hidden down a tree lined lane, the manicured gardens are a perfect place to hide out with a perfectly curated gourmet hamper and a glass of something yummy.
The Poacher’s Pantry offers a bit of something for everyone: the farm shop selling their own smoke house meats and other gourmet goodies, a cellar door featuring both Poachers and Wily Trout wines, a restaurant and a space for weddings and other events.
The restaurant is open Friday to Sunday and also for brunch Saturday and Sunday. Being mid week we opted for the delights of the gourmet picnic basket. After choosing our smoked meat from the pantry fridge we set off into the grounds with a picnic basket stuffed full of goodness. Mixed olives, apple and thyme paste, two gorgeous cheeses and Italian style flat bread accompanied our smoked proscuttio and a glass of Wily Creek wine. After a luxurious afternoon we ambled back to the Pantry shop for a coffee.
What a perfect afternoon.
