After five days exploring the Canberra wine region Eden Road Wines emerged as a clear favourite. With a modern and light filled tasting room it managed to be both friendly, casual but also intimate. Our tasting, hosted by Guillermo, was less a tasting and more a chat with a friend with a passion for the wine and the region.
Not content with just one (2 hour) wine experience we ended up back at Eden Road the next day to just enjoy the atmosphere and indulge in another glass of one of our favourite wines the 2018 Tumbarumba Chardonnay. We managed to nab the last bottle of this outstanding vintage, but don’t despair as the 2019 vintage is also top notch.
The biggest problem with Eden Road is deciding what to take home. Their range has a bit of everything: the region’s signature Riesling to a beautiful blush skin contact Pinot Gris, complex and savoury Syrahs and a medium bodied spicy Pinot Noir. They were all top class.
Not generally a Riesling drinker, the Canberra Riesling with its lime and lychee notes ended up on the buy list and garnered a new fan for this wine style. Also in the boot was the lingering creamy finish of the 2018 Tumbarumba Chardonnay and the savoury yet fruity 2014 Block 94 Syrah.
So much to love. So much more to come for this amazing vineyard. We will be back.
