Our final destination today was Jindabyne. Well known for being a destination for winter activities it is also great in the summer. Lake Jindabyne, and surrounds, are also great for other summer time activities like horse riding, swimming, kayaking, fishing, bush walking and mountain biking. Or you can drive the great roads up in the Alpine regions.
Getting there is half the fun. Heading out from Goulburn the Braidwood Road is well-sealed and meanders through some beautiful countryside. At Braidwood we were going to take the Kings Highway into Batemans Bay and then perhaps even double back on it. The reason: Clyde Mountain. Lots of twists and turns with a long descent (or ascent depending on which way your driving). It is a fairly busy bit of road, especially during the holidays, as it is the major route from Bateman’s Bay to Canberra. When we arrived in Braidwood and saw the constant stream of traffic coming from Bateman’s Bay we decided to give it a miss. It is no fun getting stuck in a long line of traffic and there are not many places you can overtake on this road.
Plan B- double back to Bungendore and head for Queanbeyan. We then dodged around Canberra. If you have time Canberra is a great place to visit. The host of attractions: Parliament house, Questacon (great adult and kid friendly museum), National Sound Archives, National Gallery, National Museum of Australia, Dinosaur Museum, Floriade (flower festival), Summernats (Street Machine Festival) as well as its proximity to the snow fields make it popular all year round. Great places to eat too! Our favourite is Italian and Sons in Lonsdale St, Braddon.

Leaving Canberra behind we took the Munaro Highway to Cooma and then the Kosciuszko Rd to Jindabyne. Continue to Berridale across the dam at Lake Jindabyne and find a nice place to relax.
